I've just spent one month in Vietnam to celebrate the Lunar New Year with my relatives and make a long  trip from the south to the north of Vietnam. It was the first time that I came back to Vietnam after 24 years living abroad. So everything looked new and impressive for me. This trip was a kind of exploration of my mother country with the following itinary:

1/Sài Gòn (I hate Ho Chi Minh name)- Mekong Delta- Saigon

2/Walking around Saigon

3/Saigon - Phan Thiết, Mũi Né

4/Mũi Né- Nha Trang

5/Nha Trang- Hội An

6/Hội An-Huế

7/ Huế- Hà Nội

8/ Hà Nội- Hoa Lư, Tam Cốc- Hà Nội

9/Hà Nội- Hạ Long bay- Hà Nội

10/ Hà Nội- Sapa

11/ Hà Nội City tour.

Usually, this 18 days  itinary is proposed by The Sinh Tourist travel agency, one of the most famous tour operator located in Vietnam. As this is a long tour, this operator tries to put  individual with tours that may be organized by other operators. Therefore, sometime the quality of service is not very good. I will talk about this wickness later.

Meanwile, here are some information that you should know about Vietnam before departure:

a/Visa:

All foreign visitors have to apply for visa. One can do it at the vietnamese ambassy or other travel agencies, visa servicces etc.... .In France, touristic visa with single entry costs 75 Euros for 3 months stay and takes about 15 days to be delivered.

Vietnamese people living abroad can aplly for the exemption of visa with multiple entries during 5 years for 17 Euros. Delivering time is also 15 days unless you wish to get the visa 20 minutes after the application, then you have to pay from 10 to 20 euros more.

b/ Transporation:

People drive like crazy despite low speed. As streets are often crowded with motobikes, cars, mini vans, buses and pedestrians, everybody tries to steal empty spaces in honking.

Sau trận Tsunami, thiên hạ không ai thèm đi Thái Lan nữa. Các công ty du Lịch đại hạ giá những chuyến du lịch trong nước này. Tôi bèn nắm lấy cơ hội này để phiêu du một chuyến xem những gì tôi sẽ thay có giống như mọi người diễn tá không.

Après le drame du Tsunami, tout le monde fuyait la Thailande. Les tours opérators brassaient les circuits vers cette destination. J'ai donc profité de cette opportunité pour y faire un tour et aussi pour vérifier si tout ce que l'on me disait de bien concernant la Thailande. L'une des destinations préférées des français jusqu 'aujourdhui.

Đây cũng là chuyến đi đầu tiên về châu á sau 18 năm xa cách quê hương Việt Nam của tôi.

C'était mon tout premier voyage vers l'Asie après avoir quitté mon pays natal (le Vietnam) depuis 18 ans.

Thoạt tìên khi bước ra khỏi phi trường, tôi choáng ngộp vì bi hơi nóng tạt vào mặt.  Lúc ấy, tôi bất chợt ý thức được là minh đã sống ở châu âu quá lâu nên không còn quen với khí hậu vùng nhiệt đới nữa.

En sortant de l'aéroport de Bangkok, j'étais suffoquée par la chaleur humide et les bruits incessants des cyclomoteurs et des klaxons. Sur le coup, je me suis rendue compte que j'ai quitté l'asie depuis trop longtemps déjà, au point de ne plus me rappeler de son climat.

Nous avons été accueilli par 2 hôtesses en tenues traditionnelles qui nous remettaient des courones de fleurs. Puis le guide nous a amené dans un microbus pour aller au centre ville de Bangkok.

Chiêc bè này chở chúng tôi tham quan phong cảnh hai bên bờ sông cùng kinh rạch Bangkok và chở chúng tôi đến khách sạn.

Un petit tour dans la rivère et les canaux de Bangkok en embarcadère pour se rendre à l'hôtel.

Tự  nhiên chạnh lòng nhớ tới Thanh Đa

C'était la dernière étape avant le mini séjour balnéaire à Jomtien. Phuket étant ravagé par le tsunami. A Jomtien, l'endroit idéal pour manger pour moi était le sous sol de Carrefour. Bon, propre, pas cher

Bilan de mon voyage: j'ai découvert un pays qui ne m'intéressait pas au départ. D'ailleurs, je reste insensible aux monuments et à l'architecture de ce pays.  Néanmoins, j'ai compris pourquoi on a appelé la Thailande le pays du sourire.  Au marché, le marchandage se fait toujours avec le sourire, même lorsque les acheteurs offrent un prix en dessous de la valeur marchande. Parfois je me demandais si je suis devenue trop occidentale pour comprendre les subtilités cachées dans chacun de ces sourires?
